My name is Merete, and I am the jewelry artist behind WrappedJewels.
When I create jewelry, it is with deep inspiration and intuition. People's stories guide me, and the stones communicate. I am the channel through which it flows when memories and crystals are transformed into physical jewelry. It may sound ethereal, but in reality, I am quite down-to-earth.
I have a background in the textile industry. This first led me to India, then to Bulgaria, where I lived for two years in each country. Afterwards, I became the quality manager for one of Denmark's largest clothing brands, where I stayed until I started Wrapped Jewels.
I live with my two lovely girls, my husband and our two naughty male cats Bob and Herman in Hornslet.
Inspiration for Wrapped Jewels
Both of my children were breastfed. When the eldest stopped, I wanted a symbolic memento in the form of a breast milk jewelry. I attempted to purchase a breast milk jewelry from other providers. It failed time and time again.
I have been making various types of jewelry since my teenage years, so I had a budding idea of trying it myself. But I wanted it in a very specific way, and that would require a lot of materials and tools that I didn't have at the time - it would be too expensive, I thought.
But then I experienced a waiting period of 11 months. That was the end of my patience, and then I started myself. Igot the materials, created a piece of jewelry, refined the technique, became more skilled, and received inquiries. That piece of jewelry turned out so beautifully! And more than that – it was the beginning of Wrapped Jewels!
A life with sticker mustaches
But there's another reason why I started WrappedJewels.
I barely knew my eldest daughter's daycare provider... Iworked full-time in a job with a long commute. It was only on Fridays that I could pick her up just before the daycare closed.
I loved my old job, and I was good at it. And I really miss my colleagues from there! But after my last maternity leave, my requirement was that I would only return for 30 hours, because otherwise we couldn't make it work as a family. Six months passed, and then they wanted me back full-time and traveling.
I am a mother who had her first child at 37 because I pursued a career. I have traveled most of the world, stayed in luxury hotels, and eaten at the most fantastic restaurants. But for many years, I missed having someone to call home to. I missed having such lovely daughters... And now that I have them, I would rather make sticker mustaches with them than call them on Skype from China.
Creativity from the heart
It is wonderful to return to the creative landscape. In Wrapped Jewels, I combine craftsmanship and knowledge with my human insight to bring joy to others.

The best thing about my independent life is the good conversations with my lovely customers and making something beautiful with my hands that means something to other people. I have the freedom to practice running and yoga, pick up my children early if they need it, move my work outdoors into the sun, and rearrange my working hours to make it all fit together.
It warms my heart when I hear from my customers how much a piece of jewelry has meant. Creating jewelry is a pleasure and a privilege every day. So from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for your trust and for helping to make this possible.
