Continue ShoppingFor all my jewelry, I use wire in different thicknesses, shapes, and metals.
Copper
Raw copper, which will oxidize over time. Personally, I love the dark color that develops, but if you prefer the shiny look, they can be polished bright again with a cloth or toothbrush and a little brasso. They can also be briefly placed in boiled hot water with very little citric acid and a little dish soap. Be aware, however, that not all stones can tolerate citric acid! All memory jewelry can easily tolerate this, but avoid leaving them in too long as the resin can become soft and you may lose the shiny surface. 5-10 seconds is enough. Rinse them thoroughly in cold water afterward.
New jewelry vs used jewelry
Argentium silver
Has a higher silver content than sterling and is therefore slightly more expensive. But at the same time, it is also more allergy-friendly, and people who cannot tolerate Sterling can often tolerate Argentium. It is also easier to maintain as it does not oxidize as quickly as Sterling. Visually, there is otherwise no difference between the two.
Gold-filled 14 karat
Solid gold is both very expensive and very soft. It is therefore not suitable for wire wrapping as I do. That's why I work with a material called "double" or in English "gold-filled". It is a copper core with a thick 14-karat layer cast over it. It is very durable, and with normal daily use, my supplier states a lifespan of 20-30 years. It is 20 times thicker than gold-plated and therefore a really good alternative to solid gold in my work.
