Continue ShoppingJewellery is meant to last a lifetime, but this requires you to take good care of it.
Therefore, take off your jewellery when you sleep, bathe, swim, play sports, sunbathe, wash your hands, and especially when using hand sanitiser. Opals, in particular, should not be worn in water as they absorb it and can completely lose their lustre.
Furthermore, it is best not to wear them in the same areas where you apply perfume.
Jewellery wears out faster when worn around the clock, and with wire wrapping, which has many intricate details, a lot of dirt, soap residue, and dead skin cells can easily accumulate.
Many delicate stones such as pearls, corals, and opals can also become dull from various chemicals, soap, hairspray, chlorine, and similar substances. Opals and emeralds are also very porous and can break with hard impacts. Resin jewellery (memorial jewellery) can also be scratched by contact with sharp objects.
Cleaning; Silver and copper oxidise over time and become darker. Although I use Argentium silver with a higher silver content than Sterling, they will eventually look slightly darker. However, they can easily be polished with a microfibre cloth, as can copper.
All jewellery can be washed with lukewarm water and a soft toothbrush to get into all crevices. Be careful with the wire so that it does not come loose.
Storage; When your jewellery is not in use, store it in a proper jewellery box or a small cloth bag. Resin and other gemstones can change colour in direct sunlight, so never leave jewellery on a windowsill.
